"It is a great thing to do a little thing well. "

Of the four houses formed this year House D has been one of the most pronounced in displaying not only "house" spirit, but school ardor as well.  This has been done in quantity and with a quality worth praise. There are approximately two hundred students in the House and most are involved in various school clubs, projects, teams, and support Student Council functions wholeheartedly.

One example of their "gumption" was their willingness to manage the selling of refreshments for the full length of time at the Film Festival. Their reliability added to the great success of this "First" for Elliot Lake. Their contribution was vastly appreciated by the thirsty participants.

Although the sense of belonging to a specific house has not yet infiltrated into every aspect of endeavor, it has certainly caught fire where team competition is concerned. House D can boast of fine team co-operation and sportsmanship. An exhibit of their "atomic energy" was seen by all who attended the House Volleyball Tournament. Two senior mixed teams and a junior team fiercely met the challenge. Each member fought with determination. When the battle ended the senior team captained by Terry Abraham placed second and the other

senior team led by Debbie Frauts finished third.  With this volley of skill the overall picture read: House D Victorious with 185 points. Many thanks must go to the Athletic Conveners who were Bette Anne Pearse, Tony Vlahovich, Maryanne Houston and Allan Hamernick.

Belonging to the house and chosen to represent E. L. S. S. in Girls' Volleyball Competition in Sault Ste. Marie were Mary Moody, Bette Anne Pearse, Tiia Tiisler and Debbie Frauts. House D takes pride in all her athletic students, especially in the well known Larry Brown. Larry has done exceptionally well in All Ontario and All Canadian cross-country meets. Also on the track team are Bill Boehler, Bill Napier and Wayne Labine.

Being a well rounded group other areas have been able to appreciate our talents.  Those noted for scholastic accomplishments are Stephen White, Gordon Chennette, Eve Breyenski, Debra McCulligh, Aivars Petersons, Connie Pearse, Joel Nauss, Barbara Stanislawski, Rod Hammond, Dana Randall, Sandra Valley, Wayne McLeod, Lynne Sullivan, Karen Bartlett, and Mary Lane.

That extra dash and ambition our house has was exemplified by the winning of ticket sales by one of our Year 4 students.  Tony Vlahovich sold a total of $210 worth.

As this house makes itself better known it will evoke a fear in its opponents, the admiration of the staff, and pride in its members and the dean.  The name to remember is PROTONS - the positive thinkers.
